Former White House national security adviser John Bolton is sharing his view of President Donald Trump.

During an exclusive interview with ABC News, Bolton said of Trump, “I don’t think he’s fit for office. I don’t think he has the competence to carry out the job.”

“There really isn’t any guiding principle that I was able to discern other than what’s good for Donald Trump’s re-election,” Bolton added.

He later added:

“I think he was so focused on re-election that longer-term consideration fell by the wayside. […] There was considerable emphasis on the photo opportunity and the press reaction to it and little or no focus on what such meetings did for the bargaining position of the United States.”

Bolton’s upcoming book, “The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir,” is “the book Donald Trump doesn’t want you to read,” the publisher previously said.

According to reports about Bolton’s book published in the Wall Street Journal, Bolton claims that in 2019 Trump sought after Chinese President Xi Jinping’s help “to ensure he’d win” re-election. Other claims Bolton is making include that Trump allegedly said it would be “cool” to invade Venezuela.

Trump has not stayed silent, as he responded following Bolton’s excerpts being released.

In a tweet overnight, the president suggested Bolton’s book is “made up of lies [and] fake stories.” He also called Bolton “a disgruntled boring fool who only wanted to go to war. Never had a clue, was ostracized [and] happily dumped. What a dope!”

The Trump administration sued Bolton on Tuesday in an effort to delay publication of his book. Bolton’s memoir is expected to be released on June 23.
