Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) attempted to draw attention to the surge of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border during President Joe Biden’s address to Congress by bringing out a thermal space blanket similar to the ones migrants receive at detention facilities.

She tweeted, “For those who complained about the sound of my Mylar blanket, imagine what this room sounds like. Fix it, Joe!”

Boebert added, “Biden refused to bring attention to the crisis he created at the southern border. So I did.”

She added, “The border is a war zone.”

Her spokesperson echoed to The Hill, “President Biden did not address or bring attention to the crisis at our southern border. So Rep. Boebert did.”

During his address, the president called for immigration reform, “Immigrants have done so much for America during this pandemic — and throughout our history. The country supports immigration reform. We should act. Let’s argue over it. Let’s debate it. But let’s act.”

During an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Thursday, Vice President Kamala Harris discussed what she is doing to address the situation at the border.

“The way that we are then dealing with this is to say, ‘Hey, let’s … understand these are our neighbors in the western hemisphere and let’s do what we can to give the folks there some hope that if they stay, help is on the way,'” Harris said.

Harris explained she has been meeting with members of the administration’s cabinet, including the secretary of commerce and secretary of agriculture, to address issues in countries where migrants are coming from.

The vice president also said she has convened with “American foundations to renew their emphasis and priority around the northern triangle.”

“So this is the work we need to do. It will not be fixed overnight. Look, if this were easy it would’ve been fixed a long time ago. It’s not a new issue, but we are prepared to make the investment and to get in there for the long haul,” Harris said.
