Freshman Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) is labeling members of her party a “cancer” for accepting appointments from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to serve on a committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

On Thursday, Boebert blasted Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) and Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) for accepting nominations to the committee and called for them to be kicked out of the conference

“Sadly, since coming to Congress in January, I’ve seen firsthand that Representatives Kinzinger and Cheney have done more to hurt the Republican conference than help them. While working for Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi, these members should not be allowed in our closed-door private meetings, or even the Republican cloakroom,” she said.

She continued, “Both Liz and Adam have stood by and simped for Pelosi as she has consolidated power in her office and trampled the Constitution.”

As Connor Howlett, a digital strategist for Turner PR in New York City, explained to CNN, “‘Simp’ is slang for a person (typically a man) who is desperate for the attention and affection of someone else.”

The Colorado Congresswoman went on to blast Cheney and Kinzinger for not defending her, but supporting Pelosi’s decision to reject two of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) picks to serve on the Jan. 6 committee.

Finally, she said, “They are a cancer to our party and to our caucus, and they must be expelled from our conference.”

Earlier this month, Pelosi appointed eight lawmakers to the committee, including Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.). House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was allowed to consult on the remaining five members.

McCarthy chose five Republicans, including Reps. Jim Banks (Ind.), Jim Jordan (Ohio), Rodney Davis (Ill.), Kelly Armstrong (N.D.), and Troy Nehls (Texas).

However, Pelosi made news when she took the unusual step of rejecting two of the picks, Jordan and Banks. In a statement, she said she spoke to McCarthy “about the objections raised about Representatives Jim Banks and Jim Jordan and the impact their appointments may have on the integrity of the investigation.”

“With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee,” she said.

In response to the House speaker’s move, McCarthy announced that he would withdraw his suggestion for the remaining three lawmakers. He also said Republicans would conduct their own investigation of the violence of the riot.

On Sunday, Pelosi announced she would appoint Kinzinger to the committee.

Cheney and Kinzinger have both been vocal critics of former President Donald Trump, and both voted to impeach him on the charge of “incitement of insurrection” earlier this year.
