Former Vice President Joe Biden is sending a message to Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) supporters after winning multiple key states during the latest Democratic primary.

Late Tuesday night in Philadelphia, Biden thanked Sanders’ supporters for backing the Democratic Party. He also urged Sanders’ supporters to focus on unifying in the months to come.

Biden went on to remind voters that there is still “one common goal” between them all regardless of the Democratic candidate to clinch the nomination: Unity will be vital to “defeat Donald Trump.”

“I want to thank Bernie Sanders and his supporters for their tireless energy and their passion,” Biden said in Philadelphia. “We share a common goal, and together we’ll defeat Donald Trump.”

“Winning means uniting America, not sowing more division and anger,” Biden said. “It means having a president who not only knows how to fight but knows how to heal.”

He continued, “At this moment, when there’s so much fear in the country, there’s so much fear across the world, we need American leadership. We need presidential leadership, that’s honest, truthful, reassuring and steady.”

The latest news follows a string of reports about Biden’s big wins across six states during Tuesday’s Democratic primary. With victories in states like Michigan, Mississippi, and Missouri, Biden walked away with the biggest wins of the night.

The Michigan win was likely the biggest prize and the most “crushing blow” for the night, as IJR reported. During the 2016 Democratic primary, Sanders defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Michigan. However, that wasn’t the case this time around against Biden.

Recently, Biden has gained momentum with a double-digit lead. The key states up for grabs on March 17 are Arizona, Florida, Illinois, and Ohio.
