Former Vice President Joe Biden is criticizing President Donald Trump’s counter-coronavirus response and revealing how he would have handled the situation differently.

On Sunday, Biden appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper, where he discussed the potential pandemic and Trump’s statement about the “coronavirus hoax.”

“We knew that this was coming. … Back as far as January,” Biden told Tapper. “They didn’t even begin to prepare the testing kits. I mean, this is something that’s kind of elementary.”

He went on to offer his opinion of Trump’s statement about the coronavirus being a “Democratic hoax.”

“Look, I don’t want to talk down the possibility of us being able to do this well, but, you know, the idea that Donald Trump said just several days ago this was a Democratic hoax. What in God’s name is he talking about?” Biden added Sunday. “Has he no shame?”

Watch Biden’s interview below:

As previously reported on IJR, Trump discussed the controversy surrounding the coronavirus during his rally in South Carolina on Friday. Describing the virus as a “hoax,” Trump suggested that the Democrats were “politicizing” the outbreak to discredit him.

“The Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus,” Trump claimed.

During the same rally, Trump also took aim at the former vice president, labeling him “Sleepy Joe.”

At one point during the rally, Trump took a jab at Biden as he recalled when the Democratic presidential hopeful forgot which state he was in.

Dubbing Biden as “Sleepy Joe,” Trump offered an impersonation of the former vice president asking his campaign aide whether he was in Ohio or Iowa as opposed to South Carolina.

Trump also took to Twitter multiple times over the weekend to mock Biden. On Saturday, he tweeted about Biden’s primary win in South Carolina marking it the “end of Mini Mike.”

He tweeted, “Sleepy Joe Biden’s victory in the South Carolina Democrat Primary should be the end of Mini Mike Bloomberg’s Joke of a campaign. After the worst debate performance in the history of presidential debates, Mini Mike now has Biden split up his very few voters, taking many away!”

Then, on Sunday, Trump tweeted again following Buttigieg’s announcement to end his presidential campaign.

Trump tweeted, “Pete Buttigieg is OUT. All of his SuperTuesday votes will go to Sleepy Joe Biden. Great timing. This is the REAL beginning of the Dems taking Bernie out of play – NO NOMINATION, AGAIN!”
