President Joe Biden says the nation needs to catch up to the rest of the world when it comes to infrastructure plans because, in his words, “This is the United States of America, for God’s sake.”

Biden told Ford workers on Tuesday, the Trump administration “announced infrastructure week, and they announced it announced it and announced it and announced it every week for four years and didn’t do a damn thing.”

He added, “They didn’t get the job done. Folks, the rest of the world is moving fast. They’re moving ahead. They’re not waiting for the United States of America.”

Claiming the United States is going to “set a new pace for electric vehicles,” Biden continued, “That means reversing the previous administration’s short-sighted rollback of vehicle emissions and efficiency standards.

To achieve this goal, Biden said it is necessary to pass his American Jobs Plan in order to “transform our infrastructure.”

“Our infrastructure is ranked like 38th in the world. This is the United States of America, for God’s sake,” the president said.

He also argued, “The American auto industry is at a crossroads, and the real question is whether we’ll lead or fall behind in the race to the future.”

The $2.3 trillion American Jobs Plan includes tax incentives to buy low-emission vehicles, an initiative to convert one-fifth of the nation’s school busses to electric power, and funding for 500,000 electric charging stations across the nation.

“The future of the auto industry is electric,” Biden said. “There’s no turning back.”
