Democratic nominee Joe Biden again shot down reports this week that his son allegedly acted inappropriately while on the board of a Ukrainian energy company. The Democrat went on to call the reports surrounding his son a “last-ditch effort” and blamed Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

In an interview with a local Wisconsin television station, Biden was asked about a statement by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) accusing Hunter Biden and other Biden family members of “profit[ing] off the Biden name.”

Johnson also accused the mainstream media of ignoring an 87-page report that the Homeland Security Committee put out. The senator said that the “mainstream media” ignoring his committee’s report is “a scandal in and of itself.”

Asked about Johnson’s claim that his son Hunter profited off the Biden name, Joe Biden said that there is no truth “whatsoever” to the accusations.

He continued, “This is the same garbage Rudy Giuliani — Trump’s henchman. It’s a last-ditch effort in his desperate campaign to smear me and my family.”

Biden added, “Even the man who serves with him on that committee, the former nominee for the Republican Party said there’s no basis to this. And the vast majority of the intelligence people have come out and said there’s no basis at all. Ron should be ashamed of himself.”

Biden’s statement referenced Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) who said that Johnson’s probe is “not the legitimate role of government.”

The reporting around Hunter Biden that surfaced last week in the New York Post has been treated with caution by much of the mainstream press. The New York Times reported that multiple reporters at the tabloid refused to put their names on the story. And Mediaite reported that Fox News passed on the story, leading Rudy Giuliani to take it to the New York Post.

Senator Johnson’s probe into the Bidens has been underway for months and he has admitted that his investigation is aimed at helping Trump, saying, “I would think it would certainly help Donald Trump win reelection and certainly be pretty good, I would say, evidence about not voting for Vice President Biden.”
