President Joe Biden offered words of gratitude to U.S. service members on Thanksgiving.

The president and first lady took time to call members of the U.S. Armed Forces on Thursday, and labeled them “the best of America,” according to The Hill.

“You gave up your seat at the Thanksgiving table to defend us – and we owe you a debt of gratitude,” Biden tweeted.

He added, “You’re the best of America.”

From the Biden family to all of yours, Happy Thanksgiving.

This holiday, we celebrate all that brings us together, grounded in history and our shared hopes for the future.

Earlier Thursday, the Bidens called into the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, where it was met with awkwardness due to technical difficulties at the start.

“Hello?  Happy Thanksgiving.  Mr. President, are you there?” NBC News’ Dylan Dreyer said, before the president responded, “We’re here!”

During the phone call, Biden said, “I want to say thanks to the firefighters, the police officers, first responders. They never take a break.”

The first lady added, “And God bless our troops, for sure.”

“I hope everybody remembers we end every single day with ‘God bless our troops,’ for real,” the president then said.

The Bidens celebrated Friendsgiving with roughly 400 service members and their families earlier this week at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in North Carolina.

“The American people have no idea the sacrifices you’re making,” the president said. “One percent of you represents 99% of the public; you’re all volunteers, you all just show up, and you’re always there.”

The president also participated in the Thanksgiving tradition of pardoning turkeys — named Chocolate and Chip — this week.

The Bidens spent Thanksgiving day in Nantucket, Mass.

Prior to the Thanksgiving day, the White House shared a list of the president’s “top accomplishments for when chatting with your Uncle at Thanksgiving.” The post was mocked by Republicans and conservatives.
