Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris (Calif.) are offering their condolences to President Donald Trump in the wake of the death of his younger brother, Robert Trump.

In a tweet Sunday morning, Biden said, “Mr. President, Jill and I are sad to learn of your younger brother Robert’s passing. I know the tremendous pain of losing a loved one — and I know how important family is in moments like these.”

“I hope you know that our prayers are with you all,” he added.

Harris said, “Doug and I join the Biden family in sending our deepest condolences and prayers to the entire Trump family during this difficult time.”

“Losing a loved one is never easy, but know that we are thinking of you,” she added.

Trump shared that his younger brother, Robert Trump, 71, died on Saturday of an undisclosed illness. In a statement, he said, “It is with heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight. He was not just my brother, he was my best friend.”

“He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live on in my heart forever. Robert, I love you. Rest in peace,” he added.

Trump visited his brother at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan for about 45-minutes on Friday.

The president told reporters on Friday, “I have a wonderful brother. We’ve had a great relationship for a long time, from day one.”

“Hopefully he’ll be all right, but he’s having a hard time,” he added.

Joe Biden’s son Beau died in 2015 after a battle with cancer.

During an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” earlier this year, the former vice president said Beau encouraged him to stay engaged in politics.
