President Joe Biden wants people to “read the polls” — but the polls do not seem to be in his favor, despite what he is suggesting.

The president was asked by a reporter on Tuesday, “What’s your message to Democrats who don’t want you to run again?”

“They want me to run,” Biden responded, to which the reporter added, “Two-thirds say they don’t.”

Biden added, “Read the poll. Read the polls, Jack. You guys are all the same. That poll showed that 92% of Democrats, if I ran, would vote for me.” He doubled down on the 92% claim when the reporter pushed back.

However, The New York Times/Siena College poll released on Monday found that 64% of Democrats would like to see a new nominee run in the 2024 presidential election.

“In a sign of deep vulnerability and of unease among what is supposed to be his political base, only 26 percent of Democratic voters said the party should renominate him in 2024,” the Times writes.

Additionally, 94% of Democrats who are 30 years old or younger would like to have a different Democratic presidential nominee.

As for the number mentioned by Biden, the poll found 92% of Democrats would support him “when presented with a choice between him and Mr. Trump.”

The top concern among Democratic voters who would like to see a different nominee is Biden’s age, followed by job performance.

The poll is the first of the 2022 election cycle.

According to FiveThirtyEight’s calculation for Biden’s approval rating, the president is at 56% disapproval and 38.5% approval, as of Wednesday.

His approval at the same time in the presidency is lower than the last 12 presidents’, per FiveThirtyEight.
