Months of speculation as to who presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden will choose to be his running mate are coming to an end now that the former vice president has revealed his decision.
On Tuesday, Biden announced that he had chosen Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) to join the ticket.
“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked [Kamala Harris] — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” Biden said in a tweet.
He added, “Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.”

Biden had vowed to choose a woman to be his running mate in March and embarked on a months-long search for a candidate who is “simpatico” with him. His announcement comes days before the Democratic National Convention is scheduled to begin.
Harris would be the first Black woman to serve as vice president if Biden wins the general election in November.
