“The View” co-host Joy Behar is suggesting an idea for those who do not want to follow coronavirus mitigation efforts.

During a segment of the show on Monday, the co-host suggested those people sign a legal document that says if they do get sick with COVID-19 that they will not go to the ICU.

“These people who refuse to wear a mask, refuse to social distance… need to sign some kind some kind of a legal paper saying, ‘If I get sick, I will not go to the ICU, I will not take up a bed and threaten other people’s lives,'” Behar said.

She added, “I think they should have done that in the first place.”

Her remarks come as the nation continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

There have been 196,826 positive COVID-19 cases on average over the past week in the U.S., which is a 15% increase from the two weeks prior, according to The New York Times. Since mid-September, coronavirus cases began to surge again across the U.S. and continue to do so. Hospitalizations have increased recently by 25%.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and public health experts have urged Americans to socially distance and wear face masks. Ahead of the holidays, the CDC said that celebrations “will likely need to be different this year to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

“Avoid activities that are higher risk for spread. Consider fun alternatives that pose lower risk of spreading COVID-19,” the CDC said on its website.
