“The View” co-host Joy Behar is suggesting that there is one thing that could lead to changes in gun laws.

“The Republican Party has already said, many of them, that taking those AR-15s off the market is a [non-starter]. I mean, it’s all about the guns,” Behar said Wednesday.

Guest Lindsey Granger chimed in, “There are people in this country that genuinely own guns and just do so for the same reason…”

“An AR-15?” Behar interjected.

Granger responded, “Let me give you a story, there’s a man in Connecticut that watched his neighbor have a home invasion and watched their whole family get killed.”

“He built his own AR-15 because Connecticut won’t let you buy them, but you can abide by rules that allow you to build them, and then he has one in his house to protect his family because he never wants to see that happen again,” she continued.

Finally, Granger said, “He is a Black man. It’s odd. Most AR-15 owners are former military, 35 plus, and married, so that’s all I’m saying is that is they’re not these crazy people.”

Behar fired back, “Here’s the thing, once Black people get guns in this country, the gun laws will change.”

“Trust me on that,” she added.

When Granger tried to point out that “Black people have been buying guns,” co-host Sunny Hostin spoke over her as she said, “That’s what happened with the Black Panthers. Know your history.”

The exchange comes after mass shootings in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, sparked a renewed debate over gun control measures.

However, Behar’s comments about when “Black people get guns” leaves out statistics about firearm ownership among Black Americans.

NPR reported in Mar. 2022, “Gun buying among African Americans has soared in recent years.”

“Nationwide, surveys found that 25% of Black adults owned a gun in 2021, up from 14% just six years ago,” it added.

Additionally, gun sales among Hispanic and Asian Americans are also up.
