Former Attorney General William Barr is sharing why he believes it would be a poor decision for his old boss to testify in his own defense in a trial.

During an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Barr was asked how he would handle a trial if he represented former President Donald Trump.

Host Shannon Bream asked, “Would you put him on the stand?”

“Cause I gotta imagine in any of these cases, if it gets to trial, he’s going to want to defend himself,” she added.

Barr responded by sharing he “generally” believes it is a bad idea for defendants to take the stand.

He went on to explain why he believes it would be “particularly bad” for Trump.

“I think it’s a particularly bad idea for Trump because he lacks all self-control. And it would be very difficult to prepare him and keep him testifying in a prudent fashion.”

On Thursday, a grand jury in New York City voted to indict Trump for his alleged role in paying hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

CNN reports the indictment includes more than 30 counts related to business fraud.

However, none of the charges are publicly known because the indictment is under seal.

In a lengthy statement posted on Truth Social, Trump reacted to the indictment, saying, “This is Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history.”

“From the time I came down the golden escalator at Trump Tower, and even before I was sworn in as your President of the United States, the Radical Left Democrats – the enemy of the hard-working men and women of this Country – have been engaged in a Witch-Hunt to destroy the Make America Great Again movement,” he continued.

Trump added, “The Democrats have lied, cheated and stolen in their obsession with trying to ‘Get Trump,’ but now they’ve done the unthinkable – indicting a completely innocent person in an act of blatant Election Interference.”

The former president is expected to fly to New York City on Monday.

And on Tuesday, he is scheduled to be arraigned at the downtown Manhattan courthouse.
