Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-N.Y.) said she doesn’t think President Donald Trump would say what’s said about her on Twitter to her face.

In an interview on “The Breakfast Club” on Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez was asked about the behavior of some of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) supporters who “who attack people who speak out against Bernie on social media.”

Ocasio-Cortez said that “some” of the behavior of Sanders supporters is “unacceptable,” noting that it’s “one thing to be tough” during a debate. However, she said it is “another thing to just be dehumanizing.”

Additionally, she added that the internet and social media make it easy for “for a person to drop a comment that they would never say in real life.”

Watch the interview below:

Host DJ Envy interjected, “The president threw some shots with you, which I don’t think he would ever to say to your face.”

Charlemagne mentioned a Trump tweet from last year where Trump called Ocasio-Cortez a “whack job.”

“Oh, no, he would not. Yeah, he never would,” Ocasio-Cortez said, adding, “Like, keep that same energy when you meet me.”

She said that she “felt it coming” when she was asked if she was surprised by Trump’s attack because, “He’s obsessed with television, and so he responds to things that he sees on television, and because I’m on Fox News like all the time it felt like it was kind of a matter of time.”

“But also he doesn’t like attention not being on him, so if attention is on anyone else, if it’s on Adam Schiff, if it’s on Nancy Pelosi, if it’s on Colin Kaepernick, he’s gonna try to find a way to reel that back in to himself,” she added.

Additionally, she said the media fuels Trump’s desire to shift the attention, “It’s an addictive unhealthy relationship that they have. They can’t stop covering him, and he can’t stop consuming it.”

The “whack job” comment was in reference to a tweet Trump sent in October 2019 after a video of a woman at an Ocasio-Cortez event mocking the proposed Green New Deal was posted on social media.

Ocasio-Cortez later said the woman was a Trump supporter.

She also said that sexism also fuels the attacks on her, “Virtually every reaction to you is racialized or sexualized in some way.”
