Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is expressing her displeasure with former Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s (R) claim that she does not represent the views of her party.

Ocasio-Cortez shared a portion of an interview Kasich did with BuzzFeed News, where he suggested the progressive star does not represent the Democratic Party.

In the interview, Kasich said, “You know, I listen to people all the time make these statements, and because AOC gets outsized publicity doesn’t mean she represents the Democratic Party.”

“She’s just a part, just some member of it. And it’s on both sides, whether it’s the Republicans or whether it’s the Democrats,” he added.

However, Ocasio-Cortez took issue with a former Republican governor appearing to claim he knows who represents the Democrats.

“It’s great that Kasich has woken up &realized the importance of supporting a Biden-Harris ticket. I hope he gets through to GOP voters.

She continued, “Yet also, something tells me a Republican who fights against women’s rights doesn’t get to say who is or isn’t representative of the Dem party.”

We can build bridges & not lose sight of our values.

It’s important to remember that Kasich is an anti-choice extremist. He 100% will (and has) signed away our reproductive rights the moment he has the opportunity to do so. He is not a friend to workers.https://t.co/7S8504VZcK

She also shared a story from Kasich’s tenure as Ohio’s governor, where he signed a bill restricting abortion procedures, and slammed him as an “anti-choice extremist.”

“He 100% will (and has) signed away our reproductive rights the moment he has the opportunity to do so. He is not a friend to workers,” she said.

Kasich ran against President Donald Trump in the 2016 Republican presidential primary. Since Trump won, he has been a vociferous critic of the president.

The Democratic National Committee has received some criticism over the decision to give Kasich a speaking slot at the nominating convention while not giving a speaking time to a Muslim speaker and scheduling few Latinx speakers.

Kasich is scheduled to deliver his speech on Monday night, the first day of the Democratic National Convention.
