Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is dubbing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) the leader of the “Ku Klux Klan caucus” as she believes he has taken insufficient action to address “violent targeting” of women of color in Congress.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Ocasio-Cortez wrote, “People truly don’t understand the scale, intensity, [and] volume of threats targeting [Ilhan Omar].”

“Kevin McCarthy is so desperate to be speaker that he is working with his Ku Klux Klan caucus to look aside [and] allow violent targeting of woc members of Congress. This cannot be ignored,” she continued.

Finally, the New York Congresswoman wrote, “It’s not just about nasty phone calls and e-mails. GOP are given freedom to incite without consequence. They don’t have to pay for the security required from their acts- we do. They make money off it.”

“They are targeting those least likely to be institutionally protected first,” she added.

She shared a video of Omar playing death threats she received after a video surfaced that show Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) suggesting she is a terrorist.

In a statement, McCarthy addressed the video as he said, “I talked to Congresswoman Lauren Boebert today.”

“She has apologized for what she said and has reached out to Congresswoman Omar to meet next week,” he added.

A call was set up between the two Congresswomen, but it did not go well.

Boebert said Omar asked for a public apology during the call and hung up after she pushed the Minnesota Congresswoman to “make a public apology to the American people for her anti-American, anti-Semitic, anti-police rhetoric.”

In a statement, Omar said she hung up because Boebert “refused to publicly acknowledge her hurtful and dangerous comment” and “instead doubled down on her rhetoric.”

As of Wednesday morning, no action had been taken against Boebert.
