Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has agreed to testify before Congress regarding the U.S. response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic issued a letter to Fauci thanking him for agreeing to testify before Congress and take part in two days of transcribed, closed-door interviews on Jan. 8 and Jan. 9.

“Dr. Anthony Fauci will appear before the 118th Congress for the FIRST TIME for a two-day transcribed interview on January 8, 2024 and January 9, 2024,” the House Select Subcommittee wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Additionally, Fauci will attend a public hearing at a later date, according to the letter. It was revealed that Fauci’s testimony had been “requested” on Feb. 13 and that on Nov. 3, the Select Subcommittee and Fauci’s team had come to an “agreement to facilitate” his testimony.

The Select Subcommittee revealed emails in July that showed Fauci knew of the “risky gain-of-function research” happening in Wuhan, China prior to COVID-19.

During the pandemic, Fauci received a large amount of criticism regarding his recommendations for social distancing, wearing masks, and getting vaccinated.
