Former 2020 presidential hopeful Andrew Yang made an announcement during his appearance on The View just a few weeks after dropping out of the presidential race. He announced he is starting a new nonprofit organization.

Yang said the new nonprofit, Humanity Forward, which “will champion the main ideas of my campaign… universal basic income for all Americans, an economy that works for us, and the fact that our data should be ours even if we are loaning it to the tech companies.”

According to a Humanity Forward press release, “Andrew Yang himself has committed to give one early donor $1,000 a month for an entire year, his signature policy proposal, to demonstrate the power of these ideas as he launches the new movement.”

The group is also pledging “to give $500,000 in Universal Basic Income to residents in one town in New York State as part of an initial pilot program.”

Immediate funding has been set aside for a few projects including “Engaging the Disengaged,” which focuses on bringing new voters out in 2020 and a “Future of Work” Summit where leaders from the technology industry and Washington D.C. are set to collaborate.

The organization has reportedly garnered attention and support from other major names in the technology and entertainment industry, according to the press release. Among those include comedian Dave Chappelle, actress Teri Hatcher, entertainer Ken Jeong, and founder of Reddit and Initialized Capital Alexis Ohanian.

After the suspension of his presidential campaign, Yang recently announced that he was considering a run for New York City mayor as IJR previously reported.

He is also set to launch a long-form podcast where he will discuss more in-depth ideas of how to solve the nation’s issues with journalists, politicians, and others. Yang has additionally landed a job as a CNN political commentator.
