Comedian Amy Schumer is speaking out about the backlash she received after telling jokes at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony.

During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday, Schumer told the host she “did reach out to people I was going to joke about before and make sure it was ok with them.”

She added, “Because I’ve been burned too many times. I didn’t want the camera cutting to someone who looked sad.”

Mentioning a bit she did with Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons, Schumer explained, “That was completely orchestrated, we talked beforehand.”

She continued, “The joke was that I was pretending she was a seat filler and we all worked that out together. I got death threats.”

Schumer said the Secret Service reached out to her, adding, “They were so bad that the Secret Service reached out to me about that bit. I’m like, ‘Oh, I think you have the wrong number this is Amy, not Will,’ and it was like, ‘No you are getting death threats.'”

The comedian explained, “Not that I want Will to get death threats but — the misogyny is unbelievable.”

When asked why she got death threats, Schumer replied, “Because they were like ‘you can’t — who do you think you are to disrespect Kirsten Dunst like that?'”

Schumer went on to tell Stern the Secret Service and Los Angeles Police Department called her asking if she made fun of Dunst at the Oscars.

“And I was like ‘Yes.’ But she was really nice. Her and Jesse are the coolest,” Schumer responded.

Last month, Schumer commented on the moment during the Oscars when actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock, as IJR reported.

“Still triggered and traumatized,” Schumer said in an Instagram post.

According to Schumer, Rock “handled it like a pro.”

The post continued, “Stayed up there and gave an Oscar to his friend [Questlove] and the whole thing was so disturbing.”

Additionally, Schumer wrote she was “waiting for this sickening feeling to go away from what we all witnessed.”
