Almost 40 Percent of Americans Say Humans Did Not Evolve and Were Created by God

HOUSTON, TX - SEPTEMBER 03: Parishioners of the Lakewood Church led by Pastor Joel Osteen pray together during a service at the church as the city starts the process of rebuilding after severe flooding during Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey on September 3, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Pastor Osteen drew criticism after initially not opening the doors of his church to victims of Hurricane Harvey. Harvey, which made landfall north of Corpus Christi on August 25, dumped around 50 inches of rain in and around areas of Houston and Southeast Texas. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images)

Almost 40% of Americans admit that they do not believe in evolution and instead believe that human beings were created by God, according to a recent survey.

A Suffolk University/USA Today poll conducted between October 17 and 20 surveyed 1,000 registered voters and asked them what their closest belief regarding humans and evolution was.

Of the people surveyed, 36.90% of voters said that they believed humans did not evolve but that God had created them in their present form.

Meanwhile, 24.30% of participants in the survey said they believed that humans evolved into their current form, but that God had directed the process, and 28.60% of people said that humans had evolved without any divine intervention.

The survey also reported that 7.80% of people were undecided about their beliefs while 2.40% refused to answer.

“The theory of evolution is based on the idea that all species are related and gradually change over time,” according to Your Genome.

Participants in the survey were also questioned about how often they attended religious services. Of the people surveyed, 9.70% said they attended services multiple times a week, 21% said they went once a week, 7.80% said they once a month, 17.20% said they went a couple of times a year, 20.70% admitted they rarely attended religious services and 21.80% said they had never attended a religious service.

The recent survey comes years after a 2020 survey conducted by researchers from the University of Michigan. In this survey, the researchers discovered that as people were exposed to higher education and spent less time being exposed to religious beliefs, more Americans expressed belief in evolution after analyzing data from several national surveys, according to the Christian Post.

Another survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2015 found that 65% of adults expressed belief in evolution, while 31% said they believed that humans had existed in their current form since the beginning.
