Alex Trebek is donating $100,000 to help to combat homelessness in California.

According to ABC7, the “Jeopardy!” host and his wife, Jean, made the sizable donation to Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission.

The Southern California non-profit organization is a new recuperative care center for temporary housing in North Hollywood. The Emmy award-winning host contacted the organization founder Ken Craft and asked for a tour.

After visiting the facility, Trebek offered to donate. His contribution will go toward food, transportation, and medical services that will be provided.

Alex Trebek’s donation follows reports about the ongoing homelessness crisis across the state of California.

To show their gratitude, Hope of the Valley will be naming a multipurpose area of the facility after Trebek and his wife.

As previously reported on IJR, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) made headlines when he requested $750 million to combat the problem. It has been reported that approximately 130,000 people are homeless across the state of California.

In a statement, Newsom discussed the problem and the commitment it would take on every level of government to begin moving in the right direction.

“Every corner of our state has too many people living on the streets. And the crisis puts stress on public resources, from emergency rooms to jails to public works departments. It takes an unprecedented level of partnership between local, state, and federal government,” Newsom said in the statement.

Last week, he took to Twitter with an update regarding the efforts to combat homelessness in California.

This week I visited a site in LA where families have moved into temporary housing thanks to our recent executive action.

Every day, the CA Dream is dimmed by the reality of families, children, seniors living on our streets — we simply must do more.https://t.co/0yNGw9YQ4F

With a photo of a temporary housing park, Newsom tweeted, “This week I visited a site in LA where families have moved into temporary housing thanks to our recent executive action.
