Adam Schiff Mocked on Twitter After Taking Issue With McCarthy’s Intel Committee Decision

WASHINGTON, DC - JUNE 28: Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) listens as Cassidy Hutchinson, a top former aide to Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, testifies during the sixth hearing by the House Select Committee on the January 6th insurrection in the Cannon House Office Building on June 28, 2022 in Washington, DC. The bipartisan committee, which has been gathering evidence for almost a year related to the January 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol, is presenting its findings in a series of televised hearings. On January 6, 2021, supporters of former President Donald Trump attacked the U.S. Capitol Building during an attempt to disrupt a congressional vote to confirm the electoral college win for President Joe Biden. Twitter users went after Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) after he took issue with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) decision to block him from serving on the House Intelligence Committee.

On Tuesday, Schiff tweeted, “Kevin McCarthy just kicked me and [Rep Swalwell] off the Intelligence Committee. This is petty, political payback for investigating Donald Trump.”

He added, “If he thinks this will stop me, he will soon find out just how wrong he is. I will always defend our democracy.”

Kevin McCarthy just kicked me and @RepSwalwell off the Intelligence Committee.

This is petty, political payback for investigating Donald Trump.

If he thinks this will stop me, he will soon find out just how wrong he is.

I will always defend our democracy.

Twitter users took the time to remind Schiff of his past in politics and why he should not be serving on the committee.

Newsmax analyst Jessie Jane Duff wrote, “You lied to the American public about Russia collusion and got caught. Only a pathological liar would continue with this dishonest charade.”

Journalist Glenn Greenwald tweeted, “Yes, [Rep Adam Schiff], that’s the whole point: You’re free to keep lying from other committees. What you can’t do any longer is abuse your power as House Intel Chair to leak to [Manu Raju] and others or impose the credibility of that position on blatant lies.”

Yes, @RepAdamSchiff, that's the whole point:

You're free to keep lying from other committees.

What you can't do any longer is abuse your power as House Intel Chair to leak to @mkraju and others or impose the credibility of that position on blatant lies.https://t.co/Lhz9Vg6SPy

Podcaster Tim Pool declared Schiff a “bad person.”

Radio host Andrew Wilkow accused Schiff of abusing “your position to promote what you knew was a hoax. It was the apex of unethical behavior. All that is happening is another [democrat] will take your place. Now you are making threats. What? Are you going to unleash another deep state ‘whistleblower’?”

No sir. You abused your position to promote what you knew was a hoax. It was the apex of unethical behavior. All that is happening is another #democrat will take your place. Now you are making threats. What? Are you going to unleash another deep state "whistleblower"? https://t.co/DcRfd2hSaj

You deserve to be tossed off the Intelligence Committee. Payback is just a nice bonus. https://t.co/NunC9A6mlR

I had no idea that I would appreciate Kevin McCarthy so much this soon… https://t.co/A0p1fq1Fqj

McCarthy was elected speaker by the Congress, which was elected by the people. Our democracy is precisely the thing that booted you from your committee. https://t.co/x9OgGf3drD

Perfect…..Now you’ll have more time to visit your soulmate Ed Buck, in prison. https://t.co/lje19huWeY

McCarthy defended his decision to boot Schiff and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) from the committee while speaking to reporters, as IJR reported.

He accused Schiff of using his power and “lied to the American public.”

The House Speaker explained, “Even the inspector general said it. When Devin Nunes put out a memo, he said it was false. When we had a laptop, he used it before an election to [play] politics and say that it was false and said it was the Russians when he knew different, when he knew the intel … He used his position as chairman, knowing he has information the rest of America does not, and lied to the American public.”
