Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) reminded Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to do his "research" before posting misinformation related to COVID-19 restrictions. Kinzinger shared a screenshot of Cruz's tweet showing a Facebook conversation. In it, the verified user "WA Government" responded to a question about wearing masks at a private New Year's Eve party. The user replied, "Masks are not required at private residences. Dancing is strictly not permitted." Cruz reacted, saying, "Blue-state Dems are power-drunk authoritarian kill-joys. Washington State: NO DANCING ALLOWED!!!. Any rational and free citizen: Piss off." Kinzinger responded, "Since [Ted Cruz] deleted this, I’ll post as a reminder to all of us to DO YOUR RESEARCH before posting misinformation." He continued, "WA means 'Western Australia' not Washington state." https://twitter.com/AdamKinzinger/status/1476414357663891457 The senator proceeded to tweet, "This New Year’s, put on your dancing shoes…." https://twitter.com/tedcruz/status/1476591069181710339 Cruz previously criticized Australia in October following an announcement made by Michael Gunner, chief minister of the Northern Territory in Australia, about fines for those who do not follow vaccine mandates. "I love the Aussies. Their history of rugged independence is legendary; I’ve always said Australia is the Texas of the Pacific. The Covid tyranny of their current government is disgraceful and sad. Individual liberty matters. I stand with the people of [Australia]," Cruz tweeted. https://twitter.com/tedcruz/status/1448345783409983492 Gunner issued a direct reply to Cruz, saying, "Hey [Ted Cruz], g'day from the Northern Territory in Australia." He went on to list facts about the virus. He explained, "We've done whatever it takes to protect the Territory. That's kept us safe AND free." https://twitter.com/fanniebay/status/1449945099383705601 Gunner added, "We don't need your lectures, thanks mate. You know nothing about us. And if you stand against a life-saving vaccine, then you sure as hell don't stand with Australia. I love Texas (go longhorns), but when it comes to Covid, I'm glad we are nothing like you."
