Republican Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin told Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk Friday that he believes Judge Jeanine Pirro will be confirmed as U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., if President Donald Trump officially nominates her. Trump announced on Truth Social Thursday that he would appoint Pirro as interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., highlighting her background as a former assistant district attorney, county judge and district attorney in New York, along with her tenure at Fox News. During an appearance on “The Charlie Kirk Show,” Kirk asked Mullin whether he expected Pirro to face any confirmation hurdles in the Senate. You’re familiar with the paperwork.” Kirk called the paperwork “a financial colonoscopy,” to which Mullin agreed, adding that Pirro would likely remain in the interim role for a period of time. “It takes forever, so she’ll have to stay in this position for a little bit. But I don’t think there’s going to be any problem confirming her at all,” the senator said. “I mean, we did just a real quick … opposition research, just to make sure we wasn’t missing anything. And she’s solid. I mean, obviously she said a lot of stuff that the libs are going to blow out of proportion, but I don’t think there’s any issue at all getting her confirmed.” Piro was co-host of Fox News’ “The Five” and formerly hosted “Justice with Judge Jeanine,” which started in 2011 and ran until 2022. “During her time in office, Jeanine was a powerful crusader for victims of crime,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Thursday. “Her establishment of the Domestic Violence Bureau in her Prosecutor’s Office was the first in the Nation. She excelled in all ways.” “Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York,” the president added. “She is in a class by herself.” Trump made the decision about Pirro after revealing Thursday that he would withdraw interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C. Ed Martin’s nomination for the position following Republican North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis’ refusal to back him. The president subsequently announced that he would be shifting Martin to other roles in the Department of Justice. “Ed Martin has done an AMAZING job as interim U.S. Attorney, and will be moving to the Department of Justice as the new Director of the Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney,” he posted on Truth Social. “In these highly important roles, Ed will make sure we finally investigate the Weaponization of our Government under the Biden Regime, and provide much needed Justice for its victims.” All content created by the Daily Caller News Foundation, an independent and nonpartisan newswire service, is available without charge to any legitimate news publisher that can provide a large audience.
