Daily Caller News Foundation

A federal grand jury indicted a group of Iranian nationals on Thursday over allegations of hacking former President Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, Politico reported.

The Justice Department is expected to unveil the details of the indictment by Friday, according to Politico. The identities of the indicted Iranians and the precise nature of the charges remain under wraps.

The indictment follows an August Microsoft report detailing an Iranian-originated spear-phishing attempt targeting a top official within a presidential campaign. The hacking incident resulted in the leak of sensitive internal communications from Trump’s campaign apparatus.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and U.S. intelligence agencies said on Aug. 19 that Iran is responsible for the hacking. An FBI investigation traced the breach back to Iranian hackers, though details of the compromised information remained unspecified.

The Trump team confirmed the breach in August after a series of internal documents, including strategic research on Senator JD Vance, Trump’s choice for vice president, surfaced online through an anonymous email. The FBI, along with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, released new evidence showing Iranian efforts to disrupt U.S. elections by sending individuals connected to President Joe Biden’s campaign with unsolicited emails containing stolen content from Trump’s campaign.

The FBI, ODNI, CISA and Trump’s campaign did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
