‘He Is Completely Distorted’: Joy Behar Accuses JD Vance Of Supporting Women Staying In Violent Marriages

“The View” co-host Joy Behar accused vice presidential candidate JD Vance of supporting women staying in violent marriages, despite him having disputed these claims in the past.

Vance came under scrutiny in 2022 over his remark about why he believes divorces have surged in recent generations, saying the sexual revolution made it easier for people in “unhappy” and even violent marriages to “shift spouses.” The Ohio senator and his campaign has repeatedly disputed these accusations, telling Fox News’ Sean Hannity the Democrats “have completely twisted my words.”

Behar made this accusation Tuesday without noting Vance’s disputes of these claims.

“The other thing that really ticked me off is he said that people in unhappy or even violent marriages should stay married. Now I work a lot for the retreat, which is an organization that protects women from abusive husbands. They go to this place in their pajamas, they run with their children in their pajamas. And so to stay in a marriage like that not only puts the woman at risk, but the children at risk. So he’s worried about the children. So he says ‘to shift spouses like that,’ he claimed people who shift spouses like that change their underwear, inflicting longterm damage among the kids,” Behar said.

“He is completely distorted in his views and so is Trump. So the two of them have that in common,” Behar continued.

Vance said divorces are making children of those marriages unhappy, while remaining “skeptical” the separations made the ex-spouses happier.

“This is one of the great tricks that I think the sexual revolution pulled on the American populace, which is the idea that like, ‘Well, ok, these marriages were fundamentally, you know, they were maybe even violent, but certainly they were unhappy. And so getting rid of them and making it easier for people to shift spouses like they change their underwear, that’s going to make people happier in the long term. Maybe it works out for the moms and dads. But it didn’t really work out for the kids of those marriages,” Vance said in 2022.

Vance, who himself is a victim of domestic violence, called the accusations “shameful” during his Monday evening interview with Hannity.

“As you [Hannity] know, both me and my mom actually were victims of domestic violence,” Vance told Hannity. “So to say that Vance supported women staying in violent marriages, I think it’s shameful for them to take a guy of my history and my background and say what I believe. It’s not what I believe. It’s not what I said. And I think, Sean, it’s evidence of Democrats’ complete inability to talk about the future.”

Behar further lamented that Vance opposed abortion, claiming he believes women raped by their father or uncle have to give birth to that child.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said she does not know where she fits in within the Republican Party anymore after watching the Republican National Convention. Co-host Sunny Hostin said Vance was picked because he will commit to doing what former Vice President Mike Pence would not do, particularly in terms of certifying the election.
