North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R) announced Sunday he was endorsing former President Donald Trump for president.

During a Trump event in Indianola, Iowa, Burgum, who ended his campaign for president in early December, announced he would be endorsing Trump, citing how under his administration the United States had been “safe and prosperous.”

“I’m here to do something that none of the other presidential primary candidates have done,” Burgum said, according to Politico. “And that’s endorse Donald J. Trump for president.

“Under President Trump America was safe and prosperous,” Burgum added. “And, tomorrow when you caucus you have an opportunity to send a message to the nation and send a message to the world. That Donald J. Trump will make America great again.”

Trump, who is currently ahead in the polls compared to other candidates such as former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, has been campaigning in Iowa ahead of the caucuses on Monday.

Caucuses differ from primaries in that fewer people show up, and voters who do show up must participate in person, according to the Associated Press. At each caucus location, voters will pick their choice for the presidential nominee and select delegates who will attend upcoming GOP county conventions.
