Actor Jeremy Renner opened up about his near-fatal snow-plowing accident almost a year to the day.

On Sunday, Renner, 52, appeared on CNN’s New Year’s Eve live broadcast and revealed to cohosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen how he overcame his “unbelievable battle.”

“I’m just so blessed that I have so many things to live for, brother. I have a giant family, I have a 10-year-old daughter. I would’ve disappointed and really messed up a lot of people’s lives if I would’ve passed, and so there’s a lot for me to get better for,” Renner told Cooper.

Additionally, the “Hawkeye” star admitted he’s a “pretty stubborn S.O.B.”

“There was a lot for me to fight for, and recovery was just a one-way road in my mind. My recovery became relief for me because I knew I could give relief to my family, my daughter, and all those that I really affected,” he explained. “And my poor nephew, who was there with me on that day, I gave him images that he can never unsee, but I know that my healing would be healing for him.”

After his accident, Renner said he was focused on healing rather than his “own physical ailments,” his “own pain,” or his “own anguish.”

He continued:

“I had so many things to fight for, so the one-way road of recovery was my mental, sort of, attitude, and that attitude was always to get better. There’s no option other than that. And I still work hard every day, and thank God that I have a lot to fight for.”

On Jan.1, 2023, Renner was in “critical but stable condition” after reportedly sustaining injuries from a snow plowing accident near his home in Reno, Nevada.

According to an incident report, obtained by CNN, Renner was protecting his adult nephew from a 7-ton PistenBully that was “heading directly toward” him.

According to his representative, Sam Mast, Renner was then airlifted to a local hospital where he was surrounded by family and received “excellent care.”
