Rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, formally apologized to the Jewish community in Hebrew after making antisemitic remarks.

On Tuesday, West posted the apology on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I sincerely apologize to the Jewish community for any ‘unintended outburst’ caused by my words or actions. It was not my intention to hurt or demean, and I deeply regret any pain I may have caused,” he wrote, via Google Translate.

Continuing, West said he was “committed to starting with myself and learning from this experience to ensure greater sensitivity and understanding In the future.”

“Your forgiveness is important to me, and I am committed to making amends and promoting unity,” he concluded.

In a statement to CNN, the Anti-Defamation League, a non-profit organization that helps fight antisemitism, responded to West’s apology.

“After causing untold damage by using his vast influence and platform to poison countless minds with vicious antisemitism and hate, an apology in Hebrew may be the first step on a long journey towards making amends to the Jewish community and all those who he has hurt,” the organization stated.

I tried my best. Despite that, he again violated our rule against incitement to violence. Account will be suspended.

The organization added, “Ultimately, actions will speak louder than words but this initial act of contrition is welcome.”

This came after West received backlash after making a bunch of antisemitic posts on social media. In a since-deleted tweet in October 2022, the “Heartless” rapper said he would go “death con 3 on Jewish People,” according to Billboard.

On Dec. 1, 2022, X owner Elon Musk temporarily suspended West’s account after the StopAntisemitism account shared a screenshot of “a swastika embedded within a Jewish star” posted by West on his page.

“I tried my best. Despite that, he again violated our rule against incitement to violence. Account will be suspended,” Musk said in response to a user begging him to “Fix Kanye.”
