Migrants entering the United States will be able to receive housing in a new facility set to open in January as part of an effort to ease the ongoing border crisis.

The Border Servant Corps (BSC), a non-profit organization that focuses on humanitarian aid, is set to open a massive 39,000-square-foot facility near the airport in east El Paso, Texas. The facility will be able to house up to 400 migrants a day, Kari Lenander, executive director, for BSC told CBS4 Local News.

“We’re looking forward to just the expansion of supporting this very regional effort,” Lenander explained.

“We’ve all seen the migration trends over the years and we recognized there’s more need for 24/7 services and that’s what this facility will help do, support those services in this region,” Lenander explained.

BSC has been working with Annunciation House, a volunteer organization that offers hospitality services to refugees and immigrants in El Paso, and the city to transport migrants to local shelters and airports.

After being asked by city officials to manage the Community Readiness Center, a former middle school, the BSC declined and moved forward with opening its own shelter.

The shelter will reportedly have a huge capacity to assist immigrants, offer a variety of services, and a wide range of dorm rooms for families and people in all kinds of situations.

“There will be spaces for welcome, for intake, we’ll have spaces for legal providers to come in and provide assistance to our guests,” Lenander added.

Texas border cities such as El Paso and Eagle Pass have struggled to find migrants shelter as vast numbers of people have continued to cross the border.
