Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley said she believes former President Donald Trump is “fit” to be president, but shouldn’t be in office again.

In an interview with ABC News Live Prime anchor Linsey Davis on Monday, Haley, 51, responded to Davis’ question about whether Trump would be “fit” to be president for a second term.

“It’s not about fitness. I think he’s fit to be president. It’s ‘should he be president?'” Haley said.

Continuing, the former U.N ambassador said she doesn’t “think he should be president.”

“I thought he was the right president at the right time,” she added.

Furthermore, Haley admitted she “agreed with a lot of his policies” when he was in office from 2017 to 2020. However, with all the disorder within the United States and throughout the world, she said, “You can’t defeat Democrat chaos with Republican chaos and Donald Trump brings us chaos.”

Additionally, Haley declared it was time for a “new generational leader.”

“We’ve got to look at the issues that we’re dealing with, coming forward with new solutions, not focusing on negativity and baggage of the past. So it’s not about being fit. It’s just I don’t think he’s the right person to be president,” she added.

Haley also addressed the accusation she is inconsistent in her support of Trump.

“You know, anti-Trumpers don’t think I hate him enough and pro-Trumpers don’t think I love him enough. I call it like I see it,” she shared.

This came after New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) responded to a question given to all three candidates during the fourth GOP debate Wednesday on whether Trump was “fit” to be president. While the other candidates were less clear in their answers, Christie, who has criticized Trump in the past, said he was not.
