Former President Donald Trump insists a general labeled him brave for participating in a debate in 2016.
During the New York Young Republican Club’s annual gala on Saturday, Trump shared a story about his decision to debate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton after the release of the “Access Hollywood” tapes where he was heard making lewd comments.
“A general — who’s a fantastic general actually — said to me, ‘Sir, I’ve been on the battlefield. Men have gone down on my left and on my right. I’ve stood on hills where soldiers were killed,” he said.
Trump went on to insist that the general told him, “I believe the bravest thing I’ve ever seen was the night you went onto that stage with Hillary Clinton after what happened. And then that woman asked you the first question about it.”
He then recalled his dismissal of the comments as “locker room talk.”

During the event, Trump also took aim at the criminal charges he is facing.
“Our mission in this race is to win a historic and powerful mandate to take back our nation from the shadow government of corrupt alliance,” he said.
Taking aim at President Joe Biden, Trump vowed to appoint a special counsel to “go after” him.
“They’ve opened up a Pandora’s box and I only can say to Joe is: Be very careful what you wish for,” he added.
