Rapper Andre 3,000 may be known for his rhymes, but he is now releasing a flute album of instrumental music to stay authentic to himself.

According to NPR, Andre 3,000’s first release in 17 years dropped Friday. But his shift from beats and rhymes to instrumental is something that the artist described as his latest calling.

He said, “I’ve been interested in winds for a long time, so it was just a natural progression for me to go into flutes.”

The album “New Blue Sun” is described as an “87-minute mind-bender, minimalist and experimental, work by the NPR report.

Andre 3,000 also made light of this new avenue in his career. The first track on the album is titled, “I swear, I Really Wanted To Make A ‘Rap’ Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time.”

During the interview, shared to X, formerly Twitter, by We Got It, he expressed his new inclination noting, “Sometimes it feels inauthentic for me to rap because I don’t have anything to talk about in that way.”

He added, “I’m 48 years old. Not to say that age is a thing that dictates what you rap about, but in a way it does.”

Then he joked, “And things that happen in my life, like, what are you talking about? ‘I got to go get a colonoscopy?’”

“What are you rapping about? ‘My eyesight is going bad.’ You can find cool ways to say it, but…” he went on.

When pressed about his talents, Andre 3,000 stated, “Talent is one thing, but it’s, I think timing and momentum is more important than talent.”

“My goal is, I wanna connect,” he concluded.

His goal is currently being shared online. Musician Wrekonize summed it up on X stating, “Waking up and bumping an “all flute album” is not how I expected today to go but here we are…
