John Fetterman Seen Walking Past Protesters Demanding Ceasefire While Waving Israeli Flag

WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 19: Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) chairs a Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry subcommittee hearing to examine the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other nutrition assistance programs in the Farm Bill in the Russell Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill on April 19, 2023 in Washington, DC. Fetterman returned to the Senate this week after checking himself into Walter Reed Military Medical Center in February for inpatient treatment of clinical depression, a result of a severe stroke he suffered during his senate campaign last year. Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman (D) was seen walking past a group of protesters demanding a ceasefire as he waved an Israeli flag.

As Fetterman walked by a group of protesters being arrested outside of the U.S. Capitol, he was seen holding up an Israeli flag while people could be heard demanding a ceasefire in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas and booing at him.

The group of protesters was reportedly arrested for disorderly protesting for a ceasefire in Gaza, according to The Times of Israel.

“Boo! Boo,” one protester can be heard shouting on video as Fetterman is seen walking out.

“What do we want? Ceasefire!” other protesters can be heard yelling. “When do we want it? Now!”

Another protester can be heard shouting, “Shame! Shame!” and informing Fetterman that he does “a disservice to Pennsylvania.”

In the aftermath of Hamas launching a surprise attack on Israel on Oct. 7, leaving more than 1,400 people dead and more than 240 people taken as hostages, Israel declared war on Hamas.

President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken have floated the idea of “humanitarian pauses” to allow for the release of more hostages. During a humanitarian pause in 2014, Hamas attacked a group of Israeli soldiers, kidnapped one, and killed several others.

To date, two elderly Israeli women; Yocheved Lifshitz, 85, and Nurit Cooper, 79, and two Americans, Judith Ranaan, 59, and her daughter, Natalie, 17, have been released by Hamas.

Fetterman has received backlash over his support for Israel and in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, he revealed that he had displayed posters outside of his office of all of the Israelis taken hostage by Hamas.

IJR reached out to the Capitol Police for a statement but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
