Add this to the list of nails in the coffin of former President Donald Trump’s false claims the 2020 election was stolen.

On Tuesday, former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting false statements and writings.

During a hearing, Ellis read a lengthy admission of guilt as she stated, “As an attorney who is also a Christian, I take my responsibilities as a lawyer very seriously, and I endeavor to be a person of sound moral and ethical character in all of my dealings.”

“In the wake of the 2020 presidential election, I believed that challenging the results on behalf of President Trump should be pursued in a just and legal way. I endeavored to represent my client to the best of my ability,” she continued as she grew emotional. “I relied on others, including lawyers with many more years of experience than I to provide me with true and reliable information, especially since my role involved speaking to the media and to legislators in various states.”

Ellis went on:

“What I did not do, but should have done, Your Honor, was to make sure that the facts the other lawyers alleged to be true were in fact true. In the frenetic pace of attempting to raise challenges to the election in several states, including Georgia, I failed to do my due diligence. I believe in and I value election integrity. If I knew then what I know now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post-election challenges. I look back on this whole experience with deep remorse.”

Ellis, the fourth defendant who opted to plead guilty in the Georgia case, will be sentenced to five years of probation, 100 hours of community service, and be required to pay $5,000 in restitution.

If you still had thoughts the election was stolen, ask yourself, why are his attorneys pleading guilty?

Seriously, why? These are the people who promised there would be a “Kraken” of evidence, why would they give in? Why not the release the Kraken?

If they had verifiable proof the election was stolen and they were providing legal advice that did not violate the law, why cave? Why not let a jury hear their case?

The answer is the proof does not and has not existed. And in Ellis’ case, she apparently did not do the work to verify whether the claims she was spreading in 2020 were true.

This should also put an end to Trump supporters’ claim his lawyers are being prosecuted simply for providing perfectly normal legal advice.

Whether or not Trump is guilty of criminal behavior in this case will be determined.

But the fact remains the former president and his allies engaged in a shameful, dangerous scheme to lie to the American public. They led his own supporters to believe something they are now admitting was false. They created the atmosphere that led people to storm the Capitol on Jan. 6.

They did all of this because one man could not accept millions of Americans threw him out of office.

And that man is currently the front-runner for the Republican presidential primary.
