Former President Donald Trump insists there are rumors about the future of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis‘ (R) presidential campaign.

In a post on Truth Social Monday, Trump wrote, “Roomer [sic] are strong in political circles that Ron DeSanctimonious, whose Presidential run is a shambles [sic], and whose poll numbers have absolutely crashed, putting him 3rd and 4th in some states will be dropping out of the Presidential race in order to run against Rick Scott for Senate.”

“Now, that’s an interesting one, isn’t it?” he asked.

Trump later posted the message again with the correct spelling of “rumor.”

DeSantis’ press secretary Bryan Griffin shot down the “rumor” as he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, “This is fake news. Clearly, Donald Trump and his army of consultants are panicked about [DeSantis’] winning debate performance and the strong momentum that has followed.”

“They know this is a two-man race, and we will carry this on to a win in this presidential primary. Instead of pushing fake news from New Jersey, the Trump campaign should be focused on getting their candidate on the campaign trail in Iowa and on the debate stage before it’s too late,” he added.

According to RealClearPolitics’ average of polls, Trump is leading the 2024 Republican presidential field with 53% support.

Meanwhile, DeSantis comes in second place with 13%.

Trump’s post comes after the first Republican primary debate, which he did not attend.

An Emerson College poll released on Monday found the Florida governor’s support increased from 10% in a previous to 12% after the debate.
