Actress Candace Cameron Bure received mixed reactions after she pleaded for repentance pertaining to a hurricane and massive earthquake making its way to Southern California.

On Aug. 20, Bure, 47, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, expressing her concern over the extreme weather conditions.

“5.0 earthquake and a hurricane. Can we all repent?! Please?!” she wrote, adding the praying hands emoji.

5.0 earthquake and a hurricane. Can we all repent?! Please 🙏🏻?!

However, users on X slammed Bure over her request.

“You do realize Christians spread the most hate right?? Say this as a Christian who has been hurt by the church multiple times,” one user wrote.

You do realize Christians spread the most hate right?? Say this as a Christian who has been hurt by the church multiple times. Plus didn’t see any posts when Hawaii was on fire, so guess it only matters when it involves you.

Another user accused Bure and her brother, actor Kirk Cameron, of “homophobia” and “general bigotry towards anyone who is different from you” and told them to “start repenting.”

I agree Candace! You and your brother can start by repenting of your homophobia and general bigotry towards anyone who is different from you. Have a blessed day, stay safe!

“Is that how your God works?! They sound super immature IMO,” another user wrote.

One user told Bure, “Yes, please do repent. We will all wait for your apologies.”

Despite the backlash, Bure also received support from users on X.

“Yes! Father, awaken those who are deaf and dying,” one user declared.

Yes! Father, awaken those who are deaf and dying. Call them to Life. Use whatever means necessary to grab our attention. Amen!

— Dan Dow (@dandow) August 20, 2023

The user continued, “Call them to Life. Use whatever means necessary to grab our attention. Amen!”

Another user claimed Bure’s plea would go unheard and she knows “it will get worse.”

“But good news for us is the time is nigh. Jesus is hearing our prayers and He will return amen,” the user added.

According to NBC Los Angeles, the 5.1 earthquake hit Southern California at the same time as a rare hurricane, which occurred at 2:41 p.m., “for the first time in decades.”

“For the first time ever, Southern California is under a tropical storm warning, and most of Los Angeles County is under a flash flood warning with rain expected into Sunday night,” per the outlet.
