Elon Musk responded to a video of South African politician Julius Malema, singing “Kill the Boer (Whites), kill the White farmer” Monday.

He said, “They are openly pushing for genocide of white people in South Africa.”

Musk then asked South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, “Why do you say nothing?”

Musk was born in South Africa and lived there until he was 17, according to the Washington Post.

According to Fox News, Malema is the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters party, which is gaining popularity despite being a newer party.

South African leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), John Steenhuisen decried Malema’s behavior stating, “This is a man who is determined to ignite… civil war.”

He also called him a “bloodthirsty tyrant” who supports “mass murder.”

BBC News reported on Malema’s celebration of his political party’s 10th anniversary stating:

“He has been repeatedly accused of hate speech. He’s been dragged to court by civil rights group AfriForum after the organisation filed a complaint to have the two songs Dubul’ibhunu (Shoot the Boer) and Biza a ma’fire brigade (Call the Fire Brigade) declared hate speech and unfair discrimination.”

René van der Vyver, a South African AfriForum member, thanked Musk for speaking out and posted an image of herself standing before crosses representing the white farmers who have been killed as a result of increased racial tensions in the nation.

From a Boer-girl, thank you to @elonmusk for shedding light on the dire situation of continuous, brutal farm murders in #SouthAfrica.

Journalist Stan Voice of Wales posted a video displaying crosses lining both sides of a long highway to represent all the white farmers who have been killed in this increasing conflict.

He noted, “2018: South Africa confiscated 300’000 guns from White Farmers after Constitutional Court ruled owners to relinquish weapons.”
