President Joe Biden insisted his son, Hunter Biden, had done nothing wrong just weeks before he agreed to plead guilty to federal charges.

During an interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle, he was asked about the investigation into his son.

“Sir, there is something personal that’s affecting you. Your son, while there’s no ties to you, could be charged by your Department of Justice. How will that impact your presidency?” Ruhle asked.

The president responded, “First of all, my son has done nothing wrong. I trust him. I have faith in him.”

“It impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him,” he added.

A court filing on Tuesday showed Hunter Biden will plead guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax.

He will also plead guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

CNN’s Kara Scannell noted the firearm charge is “diverted,” which she explained means the charge will “go away” if he meets a specific set of conditions.

According to The Hill, if a judge accepts the plea deal, he would likely avoid prison time.

Hunter Biden’s guilty plea comes after, as reports have indicated, five years of an investigation.

The Wall Street Journal notes the guilty plea will avoid a trial as his father is running for re-election.

White House Counsel Office spokesman Ian Sams told reporters about the news, “The president and first lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life.”
