A co-host of ABC’s “The View” says Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) was “interesting” to talk to, but he avoided saying what she felt needed to be said about race.

On Tuesday, co-host Whoopi Goldberg said, “[Scott] was an interesting cat. I enjoyed having him, I enjoyed our time yesterday, thought it was really kind of nice with Tim Scott. It was a good conversation.”

However, she still said the presidential hopeful did not address racism the way she hoped.

“I want Republicans to cop to what’s wrong. To me, that’s really important. Every time you pretend there’s no issue, you lose me,” Goldberg added.

On Monday, Scott appeared on the show and was asked to define systemic racism.

“One of the things I think about and one of the reasons why I’m on the show is because of the comments that were made, frankly, on this show, that the only way for a young African American kid to be successful in this country is to be the exception and not the rule,” the senator responded.

He added, “That is a dangerous, offensive, disgusting message to send to our young people today that the only way to succeed is by being the exception.”

Shortly after announcing his presidential campaign, Goldberg took issue with Scott for insisting the U.S. is not racist as she said, “He has Clarence Thomas syndrome.”

“Look he’s done some good stuff. Okay. But if you are running for president, you gotta do more than that. You have to represent us as a nation and then say, and as a Black man, this is also how I feel,” she continued.

Goldberg added, “But you can’t pretend that it’s not there and that it’s not an issue for the people you are running for — the party you are running for. They are, in part, the problem.”

Meanwhile, co-host Sunny Hostin chimed in, “I think one of the issues that Tim Scott has, is that he seems to think, ‘Because I made it, everyone can make it.’ Ignoring again, the fact that he is the exception and not the rule. And until he is the rule then he can stop talking about systemic racism.”
