The mother of the mass shooter who killed five people and injured eight at a bank in Louisville, Kentucky, broke her silence.

In a clip from an interview with the “Today” show posted on Monday, Lisa Sturgeon, the mother of Connor Sturgeon, expressed remorse to the victims’ families for the deplorable actions of her son. Connor Sturgeon’s father, Todd Sturgeon, also took part in the interview.

“We are so sorry. We are heartbroken. We wish we could undo it, but we know we can’t,” she told co-host Savannah Guthrie.

The full interview will air on April 27.

In an audio released by the police of the 911 call, Lisa Sturgeon revealed to the dispatcher her son “might have a gun” and was “headed toward the Old National” bank.

She also asked for leniency for him.

“I don’t know what to do. I need your help. I think he’d never hurt anyone. He’s a really good kid. Please don’t punish him,” she pleaded with the dispatcher.

On April 12, Connor Sturgeon’s family gave a statement to WDRB News and claimed he “had mental health challenges” that they were “actively addressing.”

However, they added they were shocked he was “capable” of committing the crime given “there were never any warning signs or indications.”

“No words can express our sorrow, anguish, and horror at the unthinkable harm our son Connor inflicted on innocent people, their families, and the entire Louisville community. We mourn their loss and that of our son, Connor. We pray for everyone traumatized by his senseless acts of violence and are deeply grateful for the bravery and heroism of the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department,” the family continued.

Sturgeon, 25, died in the attack.
