An update has been provided on Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-Ky.) staffer after he was attacked in broad daylight.
The parents of Phillip Todd issue a statement, sharing he was “randomly and brutally attacked by a person armed with a knife, who, according to the police report, attempted to kill him.”
According to the statement, intervention of Todd’s friend helped save his life.
“Our son is in stable condition, having undergone trauma surgery to address the wounds in his body. He also has a fracture on his skull, which will be treated with non-invasive neurosurgery. He is expected to make a full recovery due to his young age and good health,” the parents wrote.
Additionally, they shared what has been giving their son hope throughout his treatment.
“Phillip is conscious and alert and has repeatedly stated, ‘The joy of the Lord is my strength’ (Nehemiah 8:10),” they wrote.

The statement shares his parents are “impressed with the professionalism of the Washington D.C. police department in capturing the attacker, with the EMS and first responders’ quick response at the scene, and with the staff at the hospital in treating our son’s injuries.”
Todd’s parents also expressed their appreciation for his friends, the Antioch Church, and his current and former colleagues.
They thanked Paul for visiting their son and Senate Chaplain Reverend Black for praying over him.
Concluding the statement, the couple wrote, “Our hope is that Washington D.C. continues to be the safe and beautiful city our son loves so much.”
Paul issued a statement to ABC News on Monday sharing his staffer had been attacked.
“I ask you to join [wife] Kelley and me in praying for a speedy and complete recovery, and thanking the first responders, hospital staff, and police for their diligent actions,” Paul said.
Police said 42-year-old Glynn Neal, a resident of D.C., was arrested over the weekend and charged with assault with intent to kill and wielding a knife in connection with the attack, per ABC News.
