The White House has outlined a strategy for Democrats to take on the economic plan Republicans have, according to a report.

Semafor reported on the memo that urges Democrats to tackle the “House Republican MAGA Economic Plan.”

In the memo, the White House is calling on Democrats to “adopt a populist attack on the new House,” as Semafor reported.

The memo reportedly mentions legislation that would rescind money used for hiring more IRS personnel.

According to the outlet, the memo advises members to focus their attention on Republicans who have advocated for entitlement cuts and a tax reform bill replacing income tax with a national sales tax.

Additionally, the outlet reported that the White House wants Democrats to focus on the debate around using the strategic petroleum reserve to bring gas prices down amid the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Mentioning a bill expected to be considered by Republicans that would restrict releases from the strategic petroleum reserve, the White House memo reportedly declares the legislation would “tie Presidents’ hands and hamstring one of the best tools we have to protect Americans from spiking gas prices.”

The White House argues the Republicans’ plans as a whole would “make inflation worse, protect rich tax cheats, increase the deficit, raise taxes on middle-class families, and cut Social Security and Medicare.”

Semafor pointed out the memo comes as Republicans and Democrats appear to be unable to come to an agreement on an increase to the debt limit.

Politico reported the Treasury Department has warned the U.S. will reach the $31.4 trillion cap on borrowing Thursday.

Some Republicans are criticizing President Joe Biden for refusing to negotiate.

“Biden’s initial comment of zero negotiations is a non-starter,” Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) said to Politico.

He added, “[Republicans] can’t get 100 percent of what we want with only control of half of Congress, but our voters sent us to D.C. to control spending, so the Democrats have to show some movement our way, too.”
