Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is again going to bat for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in his bid for House speaker.

On Thursday, the Georgia congresswoman shared a tweet from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) suggesting Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) should be the next speaker.

“Jim is publicly supporting McCarthy [and] does not want to be Speaker. Jim wants to chair Judiciary [and] the left is terrified of him bc he’s going to be great!” Greene wrote.

She went on, “If he’s Speaker he can’t lead investigations into the FBI [and] DOJ. He’ll have his hands [and] talents tied with Speaker duties.”

She also stated she likes Jordan and noted he endorsed her “when practically no one else would.”

“And because of that I want to see Jim do exactly what he wants to do and will be amazing at, Chairman of Judiciary. He’s worked hard and is prepared like no other Republican. And America needs him to do it,” Greene continued.

Finally, she took aim at House Republicans who oppose McCarthy’s bid for speaker, as she wrote, “Time to be honest to America about the Speaker’s race. Not play up our conservative fantasies and sell Speaker candidates that don’t want to be Speaker.”

“The Never movement in the Republican Party is only hurting America and needs to end. Let’s get it together and Save America!” she added.

Earlier this month, Greene criticized Republicans for not backing McCarthy, IJR reported.

Her latest tweet thread comes as McCarthy still appears to be struggling to lock in the 218 votes needed to become speaker.

Greene and former President Donald Trump have been working to convince House Republicans to support McCarthy. However, their attempts appear to have had little effect.

If you predicted three months ago a situation where Greene would not be the one leading the opposition to McCarthy but a vocal supporter, and where Trump was apparently unable to move the needle for the conservative hold-outs, those who follow Congress closely might have looked at you skeptically,

No doubt Greene hopes she will be rewarded for her support if McCarthy winds up becoming the next speaker.

But the situation is a disaster for Republicans, who need to prove to voters over the next two years they are competent and deserve to hold onto the majority in 2024.

If Republicans want to win voters over and keep the House, having a drawn-out fight over the next speaker will not help.

And whoever the next speaker is will have to work hard to keep his, or her, caucus in line and avoid future ugly fights. If McCarthy’s campaign for speaker is any indication, that will not be easy.
