The Arizona Republican Party is calling for Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel to resign from her position.

In a tweet on Thursday night, the party’s Twitter account wrote, “Tonight, the Executive Committee of the [Arizona GOP] unanimously passed a resolution calling for [GOP Chairwoman] Ronna Romney McDaniel’s resignation.”

The resolution placed blame on the RNC for Republicans’ disappointing midterm results:

“The responsibility of Republican leadership in the Republican National Committee (RNC), the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is to hold these elected officials accountable to winning and supporting ALL of our Republican candidates in general elections by all means possible.”

It added, “The leaders in these organizations, including the Republican National Committee, did not effectively execute on this responsibility in 2022.”

Check out the resolution below:

It went on to state the party “formally calls on the resignation of Ronna Romney McDaniel as Chairwoman of the Republican National Committee and thanks her for her tireless work for the past 6 years.”

Additionally, the resolution urged RNC members to elect “new and bold leadership” to “recast a courageous vision to contrast with the disastrous failing policies implemented by the Biden Administration.”

The resolution comes after a midterm election where Democrats expanded their majority in the Senate — the first midterm election since 1934 the party in power did not lose a seat — and Republicans will only hold a razor-thin majority in the House.

It is ironic the Arizona Republican Party is calling for new leadership at the RNC given the election results in that state.

Blake Masters, who listed the Unabomber as his “subversive thinker,” lost his Senate bid to Sen. Mark Kelly (D). Meanwhile, gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake lost to Katie Hobbs — a candidate so bad she painfully struggled to share one thing she learned from the Latino community during Hispanic Heritage Month in Arizona.

Lake was best known for viral clips of her responding to reporters and advancing baseless claims about widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election during her campaign.

The party is not alone in calling for new leadership at the RNC though. Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) also expressed his belief McDaniel should not run for another term as chairwoman.

And while Zeldin also failed to win his gubernatorial election, he outperformed expectations and came close to being the first Republican to win a statewide race in New York in 20 years. Additionally, Republicans flipped four House seats in New York. So he has a little more credibility to call for changes in the national party.

Perhaps the Arizona Republican Party should take time to consider new leadership for itself and how it can start winning elections again in a state that was once fairly reliably Republican.
