Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is taking heat for a strange comparison between the war in Ukraine and the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Greene said, “We had 5 million people cross our border illegally since Joe Biden took office.”

“And let’s compare that to how many Russians have invaded Ukraine. Eighty-two thousand Russians have invaded Ukraine,” she continued. “I think the American people and the taxpayers of this country deserve to know why the Biden administration and this Congress [are] so interested in funding the protection of Ukraine’s border, and not the protection of our border.”

She added, “That’s a very good question.”

Greene’s comments may initially seem to make sense and sound good to some.

But there is a pretty stark difference between people fleeing violence and oppressive regimes looking for better economic opportunities and safety, and a trained military force launching an unprovoked war on its neighbor with the goal of wiping out its identity and absorbing it into Russia.
