Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams (D) is offering another reason why a woman may want to get an abortion.
Abrams appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Wednesday, and columnist Mike Barnicle confronted her about what seems to be a lack of interest in the issue of abortion compared to gas prices or inflation.
“What could you do as governor to alleviate the concerns of Georgia voters?” he asked.
Rather than simply focusing on economic methods of addressing inflation, Abrams used the question to talk about the alleged need for access to abortion.
“Let’s be clear, having children is why you’re worried about your price for gas. It’s why you’re concerned about how much food costs,” she said.
Abrams went on:
“For women, this is not a reductive issue. You can’t divorce being forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy from the economic realities of having a child. And so it’s important for us to have both-and conversations. We don’t have the luxury of reducing it or separating it out.”

The gubernatorial hopeful went on to say governors can address the cost of education and “put money into the pockets of everyday hardworking Georgians instead of giving tax cuts to the wealthy.”
Finally, Abrams added, “Women — half the population — especially those of childbearing age, they understand that having a child is absolutely an economic issue. It’s only politicians who see it as simply another cultural conversation.”
Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) made a similar argument in May when she said, “The fact that things like inflation can happen and it can become more expensive to feed your kids and to fuel your car is exactly why people need to be able to be in charge of how many mouths they’re going to have to feed.”
Apparently, Democrats think abortion is a solution to alleviating concerns about inflation. And President Joe Biden said the first piece of legislation he would push Democrats to pass — if they expand their majority in Congress — would be a bill to codify Roe v. Wade.
It’s sick that rather than offering solutions such as trying to stop pumping tons of money into the economy, one of Abrams’ solutions is abortion.
And then there’s the fact that even people who do not have children, and men, are worried about inflation and price increases too. So abortion probably will not be a solution to their anxiety about prices.
According to RealClearPolitics, Abrams has been mostly trailing Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) since January.
And this latest episode probably will not win over Georgia voters.
