Wednesdays can be hard for everyone. It’s the middle of the week. And sometimes it’s hard to see the end of the tunnel. You feel tired and ready to be done with the week. Sometimes you want to take a nap in the middle of the day. Sometimes you just kind of phone it into work.

And President Joe Biden appears to be especially hard hit by this Wednesday.

During an event Wednesday afternoon, the 79-year-old president seemed to need directions on where he was supposed to go.

He could be seen asking First Lady Jill Biden something, it was not clear what was said. But she was heard saying, “You go down this way.”

She then led the way.

However, he stopped, looked around, and appeared to be confused, then proceeded to follow the first lady.

This is much better than the optics we got last week — and other times — when the President of the United States was forced to communicate with some kind of sign language to figure out where he was supposed to go.

But today’s example is not good in light of what happened just hours before when he appeared to ask where a dead Congresswoman was.

“Representative Jackie, are you here? Where’s Jackie?” Biden asked, adding, “She must not be here.”

It is possible the president was referring to a different Congressperson. However, keen observers noted it appeared he was referring to Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.), who died in a car crash in August.

Do you think Biden is up for the job?

The incident came during the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. And according to a statement from Biden after Walorski’s death, she was involved in planning the conference.

Pour one out for White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who had to explain why the president was asking where a dead Congresswoman was.

There is no good answer. But Jean-Pierre came up with… words. And in the process, she also confirmed he was talking about Walorski and that he was aware she had died.

“He had already planned to welcome the Congresswoman’s family to the White House on Friday,” Jean-Pierre said as she noted there will be a bill signing in Walorski’s honor. “She was top of mind for the president. He very much looks forward to discussing her remarkable legacy of public service with them when he sees her family.”

When the reporter repeated Biden’s words verbatim, Jean-Pierre said, “I totally understand. I just explained she was of top of mind.”

Those were certainly sentences, Karine. But they only made a really awkward incident worse.

If Russian President Vladimir Putin was top of mind for the president, would he have asked, “Vladimir are you here? Where’s Vladimir?”

"She was at top of mind…"

Not only do we have a president who routinely gets lost on stage. But we have one who asks where people who he knows are dead are. And a president, who sets U.S. policy, who just kind of says things as he walks and looks around, that’s also according to Jean-Pierre.

You can make excuses for Biden getting lost on stage. Things happen.

But with the frequency with which he appears completely lost and confused, or loses his train of thought, or shouts straight-up gibberish, and now today’s display, it really is fair to ask: Is Biden up for the job?

These are not incidents of stuttering. They aren’t awkward pictures where he may or may not be sniffing a young girl’s hair. They are not manipulated videos. There just are no good explanations for why he gets lost physically and mentally so frequently if he is in tip-top shape.
