Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has introduced an abortion bill.

On Tuesday, Graham unveiled his Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act.

The bill prohibits abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy nationwide.

However, there are exceptions.

The abortion can be performed if the mother’s life is at risk or in the cases of rape and incest.

“I think we should have a law at the federal level that would say, after 15 weeks, no abortion on demand” except in the cases mentioned in the bill, Graham said at a press conference Tuesday.

He added, “And that should be where America’s at. And what would that mean if we adopted that position?”

Graham continued, “If we adopted my bill, our bill, we would be in the mainstream of most everybody else in the world.”

Graham’s bill has already received significant criticism.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the ban “would strip away women’s rights in all 50 states.”

She explained, “This bill is wildly out of step with what Americans believe.”

Jean-Pierre continued, “The President and Vice President are fighting for progress, while Republicans are fighting to take us back.”

Additionally, she said the president and Democrats are committed to “restoring the protections of Roe v. Wade in the face of continued radical steps by elected Republicans to put personal health care decisions in the hands of politicians instead of women and their doctors, threatening women’s health and lives.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) reacted to the bill with a statement posted on Twitter.

“The nationwide abortion ban proposal put forth today is the latest, clearest signal of extreme MAGA Republicans intent to criminalize women’s health freedom in all 50 states and arrest doctors for providing basic care,” Pelosi said.

Make no mistake: if Republicans get the chance, they will work to pass laws even more draconian than this bill – just like the bans they have enacted in states like Texas, Mississippi and Oklahoma.
